Growth Mindset & Challenging Learning
The time where schools focussed only on learning content has long passed. We are now in a world where we are not even certain what the world will be like when our students leave school. It is vital that we all work together to develop skills and attitudes that support their ability to learn, work with others, take on challenges and be resilient.
Our school works closely with other schools in the Wellington Network of Schools. This allows our staff to access professional learning at a high level and the opportunity to share professional ideas, experiences and to learn from other teachers.
A focus of our network and school is Growth Mindset and Challenging Learning.
Growth Mindset and Challenging learning are not programs but a way of thinking and a set of strategies that enhance learning across all areas of the curriculum.
The basic philosophy of Growth Mindset is that with practice and hard work we can improve. The Challenging Learning elements slip seamlessly into that philosophy employing high expectations, feedback, conferencing and goal setting, learning how the brain works and how to learn and stay focussed to name a few.
The success of these strategies have been seen in the way the students now talk about and take responsibility for their learning. We will be continuing our learning journey in the years to come.
